The captcha hand-over
What happens when a directory shows a captcha: the live view, the time limit, the reminder, and what is never recorded.
Updated
What happens
We do not solve captchas and we use no solving service. When a directory shows one, the browser session stays open on our server and you solve it yourself in a live view, usually on your phone. When it clears, the run carries on by itself from the next step.
How you find out
We email you with a link, and send one reminder before it expires. The campaign page also shows a banner. Several waiting captchas form a queue you work through one after another.
The time limit
A session stays open for a few minutes. If it runs out, or you press Skip, we do not retry the captcha on our own: the directory becomes an assisted step you can finish yourself with the guided hand-over.
What the live view shows
Only the directory's page, nothing else: no browser tabs and nothing from your device. Frames are not stored and not logged. Do not type your own passwords or personal details into the page.
If the live view is not available
On some installations the live view is not set up. Then the captcha is handled as an assisted step: you complete it on the directory's own site and confirm it here.
